MeneameArgentine government authorities are promoting a number of infrastructure development initiatives totaling US$450mn that will increase the competitiveness of the country's Bahía Blanca port, a port official told BNamericas.
Among the projects is the construction of a ring road and a rail line to provide access to the port. This will improve general connectivity, as well as increase cargo transport.
Both initiatives are expected to require a US$250mn investment.
Another project is the expansion of the port terminal, which will require a US$15mn investment, the official said.
As well as increasing the port's competitiveness, this initiative will improve and increase port operations and logistics, the official added.
The transport of cargo between the port and the rest of Argentina will also be facilitated through the construction of a rail line connecting Bahía Blanca city to Buenos Aires and western province Neuquén through Río Negro province. The initiative will require an investment of US$180mn, according to the official.
The initiative is part of a southern bi-oceanic corridor that connects to Chile's southern Pacific coast, the official added.
These projects were scheduled to be discussed at the CG-LA South American Integration Leadership Forum on December 2-3 in Colombian city Cartagena.
